An overview

Rarely has a technology made such an impact in the workplace as artificial intelligence has achieved in such a short time. Generative AI is changing the way we work, so it makes sense to become familiar and confident with its usage; particularly where writing forms a large part of your job.

This introductory short course can help you unlock the potential of generative AI and revolutionise your workflow. Designed for writers of all abilities and types, this 3-hour interactive session will:

  • provide essential knowledge and familiarity with the latest AI tools and terminology
  • deliver hands-on experience in generating and finessing high-quality text; no matter the format (email, article, social post, report) or context
  • discover how AI can serve as a creative partner, enhancing brainstorming sessions and writing processes
  • understand risks of using AI and how to put safeguards in place.
  • enhance productivity and creativity in your working/writing life.

With a focus on practical applications, we’ll guide you through real-world examples, demonstrating the tangible benefits of incorporating AI into your writing workflow.

This workshop will not only enhance your technical skills but also open new avenues for innovation and efficiency in your work.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do I need any prior experience with, or knowledge of AI?
A: No. This course in introductory in nature and assumes no previous learning or requirements. You do not need to be tech-savvy.

You will however, need to register with an AI provider before the course starts to participate in the exercises. We will send you information on how to do that once you book your place in the course (it’s FREE and very simple to do).

Q: What software do I need to access and download to participate? Do I have to pay?
A: There is nothing to download. Everything is browser based, but you will need to be registered with your preferred AI provider beforehand to participate in the exercises.

While the free versions of AI are fine to learn the core concepts, paid subscriptions to ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic) or Gemini Pro (Google) will enable better quality results.

The course will mainly leverage ChatGPT 4o in most of the tasks and demonstrations.
But the free versions of Claude and Gemini are used for comparisons. Perplexity (that’s an AI tool, not the noun) is also examined.

Q: Does the course cover any non-writing activities?
A: No. A range of business writing contexts are the key focus. AI tasks like image or chart creation, automation, graphic design, coding, programming, music, video and the like are not included.
